This treatment is typically done between post-op days 2-7. This consists of draining fluid through open incisions. Vitals sign monitoring, diet, and compression education. This is a STERILE procedure.

Initial assessment by Nurse of wound and drains. Vital signs will be obtained, a plan of care will be developed, and wound care will be provided. If signs or symptoms of infection are noted, the client will be referred to their Surgeon, ...

The client must have a doctor's order to remove drains. RN will assess client's vital signs and drain system. An Aseptic Technique is used upon removal. Initial wound care is given to drain sites.

Wound care completed by Nurse following plan of care developed at initial wound care assessment or as order by physician or wound care clinic.

Registered Nurse assesses vital signs and seroma. Drainage of fluid pockets. Light Lymphatic Drainage is included to ensure clearance of seroma.

Following postoperative instructions, RN will remove staples and sutures using aseptic technique.
